Young boy locked-up for girlfriend's cruel assassination

A distressed mother on Friday called the return of the death sentence after her daughter's 16-year-old murderer was imprisoned for a least of 14 years.

Joshua Davies tempted past girlfriend Rebecca Aylward, 15, to a wood near Bridgend last year and bludgeoned her to death with a rock.

He left her lying face-down in the rain, wearing new clothes she had purchased for the meeting.

The atrocious killing was carried out on a cut off patch of woodland at Aberkenfig, near Bridgend, last October.

Davies was on Friday given an undefined punishment at Swansea Crown Court and told he would serve up no less than 14 years in jail before he is believed for parole.

As he passed punishment, testing Judge Justice Lloyd Jones called Davies "devious, calculating and controlling" and said he had shown no guilt.

The court had earlier heard that a few weeks ago the murder, a friend presented to purchase Davies breakfast if he killed Rebecca.

Two days before Rebecca died, Davies texted the friend saying: "Don’t say something but you may just owe me a breakfast."

Davies' barrister Peter Rouch QC said his client upholds that his best friend was the killer.

Sonia Aylward, Rebecca's mother, said Davies justified the death sentence.

"The evil-doer Joshua Davies deprived from us of watching our costly and perfect little girl flourish into a victorious young woman," she said after the punishing hearing.

"We will never let off him for splitting our world apart so viciously and I would greet the return of capital penalty for the likes of Joshua Davies, who surrendered his human rights when he decide to take my daughter's life."

She paid tribute to Rebecca, who she explained as "a talented student, a magnificent friend but, most significantly, a loved and loving daughter and sister.

"There is no misgiving in my mind that Rebecca was intended for great things," she said.
