Walt Disney has said it supposes to drop $200 m (£126m) on its film John Carter, creating it one of the massive flops in cinema history.

The movie, about a military captain brought to Mars, could effect in an $80-120m loss for Disney's movie business during the existing quarter.

Disney shares dropped 1% in after hours of business after the declaration.

The company is still probably to earn a sufficient quarterly margin, although, thanks to its TV trades.

It is approximated that John Carter rate $250m to make and it is probably that Disney spent another $100m on advertisement.

But the movie, starring Taylor Kitsch, got middling appraisals, with New York's Time Out magazine illustrating it as "fatal dull".

Its director, Pixar's Andrew Stanton, had earlier had great victories with movies such as Finding Nemo and Wall-E.

The John Carter movie is based on a succession of books written by the author of Tarzan, Edgar Rice Burroughs.

The strings started with A Princess of Mars in 1912 and finished with John Carter of Mars, made public after the author's death in 1964.

The movie has taken no more than $184m at box offices globally, with cinema holders acquiring about half of that total.

It is harder to evaluate losses on movies, as studios shows little financial explanations and allowances have to be made for inflation.

The Hollywood Reporter says that last year's huge flop was Mars Needs Moms, which cost $150m to earn and just took $39m at the box office.

Disney will be expecting for victory from other huge budget films due for release later this year.

The list includes The Avengers, due to be released in May, and Brave, set to be released by Disney Pixar in June.
