A newly ‘Twitter record’ has been made during Women’s World Cup final

A fresh Twitter record for premier amount of tweets posted per second has been established during the peak of the Women’s football World Cup.

The final match, between Japan and America, which finished in a nail-biting penalty shoot-out, facilitated set a fresh Twitter record, with 7,196 tweets posted per second.

So far, the record had been placed by the amount of Twitter action in Japan on New Years Eve in 2010, which at its climax, 6,939 tweets were posted per second.

Even US President Barack Obama added to the Twitter storm, tweeting: “unbelievable performance from #USWNT, no matter what happens. Now on to penalties, let's triumph this.” Japan finished up taking the title home.

Previous year, the men’s World Cup final distinct the largest ever period of sustained tweeting, with over 2,000 tweets per second during the final 15 minutes of the game.

Other biggest news occasions such as the Royal Wedding in the UK earlier this year saw massive ruptures of Twitter action, with 3,966 tweets published per second.

In the same way the death of Osama Bin Laden created a biggest flow in Twitter activity, reaching a high of 5,106 tweets per second.

Last week Twitter celebrated its fifth anniversary since making its bursting public debut. The site has more than 200 million users, who are sharing 350 billion links a day.
