NEW BRAUNFELS — John Calentine hung up his holster Tuesday after 44 years behind a badge in Comal County, but he's not quite ready to relinquish his hair clippers.
“Time flies when you're having the time of your life,” said Calentine, reflecting on a career that included 28 years as a sheriff's deputy here before becoming a bailiff in 1995.
He's been a courtroom fixture since then, standing just behind thousands of criminal defendants and civil litigants — prepared to intervene if they approached a judge or tried any other questionable activity.
