Avalanche kills two mountaineers on Ortles, Italy

(AGI) Bolzano - Tragedy on the Ortles moutain in Alto Adige, the highest in the region with its 4000 metres. An avalanche killed two mountaineers on the northern versant of the mountain.

Two more mountaineers were injured and taken to hospitals in Silandro and Bolzano. The two victims were a Swiss and a Spaniard. An avalanche of ice and snow ran down the 'Gurgel' tract, at an altitude of about 2800 metres, above the mountain refuge 'Tabaretta'. The two mountaineers were part of a group and were run over and dragged down below. A man and a woman, both foreign, were also part of the same group. . . Source
