Japanese Gov't asks 3 prefectures to accept 280,000 tons of quake debris

TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Environment Minister Goshi Hosono said Friday the government has asked Gunma, Kanagawa and Shizuoka prefectures and five major cities in the prefectures to help dispose of about 280,000 tons of debris from Iwate Prefecture generated by the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami.

Hosono said the government has sent documents to the three prefectures and the cities of Yokohama, Kawasaki and Sagamihara in Kanagawa Prefecture and the cities of Shizuoka and Hamamatsu in Shizuoka Prefecture, asking them to help dispose of the debris.

The government asked Gunma Prefecture to accept 80,000 tons of combustible materials and other debris, Kanagawa Prefecture to accept 120,000 tons of wood waste and Shizuoka Prefecture to accept 80,000 tons of wood waste. Source
