TOKYO (Kyodo) -- The Japan Congress Against A- and H-Bombs decided Friday to hold a meeting in Fukushima Prefecture, where the disaster-struck Fukushima Daiichi power plant is located, on July 28, ahead of annual sessions in Hiroshima and Nagasaki on the anniversaries of the atomic bombings.

At the anti-nuclear group's meeting in Fukushima, its second there following one last year, participants will demand the elimination of nuclear arms and declining usage of nuclear power.

The Fukushima meeting will be followed by conferences in Hiroshima on Aug. 4-6 and in Nagasaki on Aug. 7-9, according to organizers. Hiroshima and Nagasaki were bombed with atomic weapons by the United States on Aug. 6 and Aug. 9, 1945, respectively.

The core theme of the meetings will be how to promote denuclearization of society, on the assumption the Fukushima nuclear disaster will continue to impact the global community as the U.S. atomic attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki have, they said. Source
